The Tootsie Roll was created in 1896 by Leo Hirschfield.

Hirschfield had a vision: to create a chewy chocolate treat that wouldn’t melt easily.

To solve this problem, Hirschfield developed a unique recipe, which gave his candy a signature chewy texture.

And thus the Tootsie Roll was born!
